On February 18 (Ash Wednesday) the capital city of Grand Cayman George Town comes alive with thousands of people who line the downtown area for the street festival. For those not familiar with Mardi Gras, it typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus, mask and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations, which basically involves leaving daily life behind and joining in the revelry. Catch some beads, get your face painted, enjoy live music and join in the revelry! The party kicks off at midday and is free to enter.
