Turtle nesting season on the Cayman Islands is May to November. Now that we’re right in the middle of the season, hatchlings are emerging and making their way to the shore.
Just a few weeks ago, a hundred hatchlings were collected by the Department of Environment from Pease Bay beach after hatching in the morning. Turtles that hatch in the morning are more likely to fall victim to predators, not to mention that the lack of light pollution at night makes it easier to find the water.
Keep your eyes open for nests and tracks when walking Cayman’s beaches, there may just be baby turtles heading out to sea!
